A new season is always a welcome time to change up your hair color, and this year celebrity hairstylists are seeing a huge increase in blonde hair color trends for winter. “People are drawn to blonde hair because you tend to look paler during the winter,” says Laura Gibson, Global Artistic Director of RUSK Hair. “Having a warm to neutral blonde undertone will help keep your hair color from washing out your skin tone.”
And these aren’t the traditional blonde colors you know and love, either, but ones with richer, warmer tones. “I think people are tired of trying to achieve a white ash blonde that’s so dependent on a professional gloss or glaze,” says Lorena M. Valdes, colorist at Chicago’s Maxine Salon. “Customers are looking to add something that satisfies the urge to spice things up.”
StyleSeat hairstylist and colorist Susan Williams agrees. “I see bolder looks like blonde balayage and teasing highlights becoming really popular right now,” the expert shares. “Both offer looks that add a pop of color and grab attention, but still offer a chance to look natural – just with an upgraded version.”
It’s safe to say that the overall vibe for blondes this winter is a rich, lived-in color that doesn’t require much upkeep, especially as cold temperatures will have hair covered in hats and scarves for the major part of the season. “Blonde hair trends this winter are growing evenly without having such a hard line, so you can go a few months without touching it up,” Mane Addicts hairstylist Sienree Du told TZR.

Bronde
According to famed colorist Tracey Cunningham, “Bronde is a toned down version of natural blonde that can be achieved through lowlights to transform the color a shade or two deeper.” For the bronde, the hair is usually darker at the roots and lighter at the ends. This is a great option for those who want to dip their toes in blonde but are worried about making a drastic change. “Bronde gives you beautiful, sun-kissed color without the commitment of coming to the salon too often,” Rubyna Kim, StyleSeat hairstylist and colorist, told TZR. “Instead of the recommended 10-12 week color touch-up, you can extend it to every 12-14 weeks. Less maintenance means you can extend the wait between appointments.
Teasy Lights
Baby lights or teasy lights are minimal highlights that refresh your color. “Teasy lights are a big trend this winter because they easily revamp the dreaded brassiness but also add dimension to hair with highlights – making hair look more natural and livelier,” says Jessica Richards, Founder of SHEN Beauty. Platinum Pink
“Shiny blondes and golden blondes can add this to their usual shine and get a hint of blush/pink with pink/purple highlights on super blonde pieces,” says Valdes. You will need to maintain your blonde hair by washing regularly with a toning shampoo for a lighter shade like this.
