- “Pamela Anderson blond” hair color is trending for summer.
- The ultra-shine shade of blonde is from the platinum family and not tinted.
- Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion and many more have tried the look.
We don’t know if you noticed it, but everyone going blonde these days. Not just any shade of blonde either – “blonde Pamela Anderson”. The hair color trend started picking up again last year after ‘Pam & Tommy’ debuted on Hulu, and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down any time soon with the long list of celebrity fans it has. gathered.
Inspired by – you guessed it – model and actress Pamela Anderson and her signature voluminous blonde style, the “Pamela Anderson blonde” hair color trend doesn’t just have famous brunettes trying on the look for size (including Dua Lipa, Ciara, Kim Kardashian, Megan Thee Stallion, Eiza González, to name a few), but he has natural blondes that go even blonder.
What sets this color apart is its crystalline tone. “This shiny blonde is achieved with lots of highlights and left ‘untinted’ to give a slightly raw, faded look,” Tom Smith, celebrity hairstylist and international creative director of color for Evo Hair, told POPSUGAR. As Smith says, the 90s are back with a bang, and so is the hair.
“A good indicator that this trend is already accelerating is all the ‘perfect platinum’ we saw at the Met Gala last week,” he says. “Several stars went platinum overnight for this year’s gala, including Emma Chamberlain and Kim Kardashian.”
But this summer hair color trend isn’t for the faint-hearted — or lovers of low-maintenance looks. “Achieving platinum hair is no small feat, especially on previously dyed hair,” Smith says. While it’s possible to achieve that ultra-shine platinum shade on naturally blonde and naturally dark hair colors with the right products, “complications arise when there’s a lot of pre-existing color on the hair, because the dyed darker hair will not lift as light or as clean as natural.”
It is essential to seek the help of a professional, because you cannot achieve this shade at home while maintaining the integrity and health of the hair. “Ask your stylist for a full head of perfectly lifted blonde highlights that are bright enough to be bleached or tinted with a clear, diluted toner,” he says. “Thanks to modern hair care, this color can be achieved while keeping the hair in pristine condition, which is important for it to look like an intentional fashion choice.”
This particular shade of untinted blonde is likely to turn yellow and brassy. To make sure this doesn’t happen between salon visits, use a purple shampoo and conditioner. Smith recommends Evo Fabuloso Platinum Blonde Toning Shampoo and Conditioner ($9) and K18 Biomimetic Hairscience Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask ($75) — a POPSUGAR 2022 Beauty Award winner.
