At CES, L’Oreal presents its first hair coloring device that can be used at home. The Colorsonic portable can mix and apply the product evenly, depending on the company. If it works as promised, Colorsonic should help users achieve consistent hair color results without having to go to the salon.
L’Oréal has developed and refined the device over five years with the help of its customers. Colorsonic’s mixing mechanism uses a no-mess process to mix exact volumes of developer and formula from dye cartridges to create hair color. The machine applies the product through a nozzle of bristles that oscillates in a zigzag pattern for even distribution.
Home dye and color kits have been around for decades. Still, the consistent results that L’Oréal promises with Colorsonic could make the device interesting.
L’Oréal has become a pillar of CES in recent years. In 2019, he announcement a sensor developed with wearable pioneer Professor John Rogers, which measures skin hydration levels. The following year he unveiled a smart dispenser that mixes skin care products taking into account factors such as wrinkles, pore visibility, temperature and pollen levels. In 2021, L’Oréal’s YSL brand unveiled a home lipstick maker based on the Perso Smart Skincare system.
