THE WHAT? Loop Industries has announced the selection of a site for its first Infinite Loop European manufacturing facility. Loop and Suez, which previously announced their intention to form a joint venture, have secured exclusive rights to purchase a 130,000 m2 plot of land in Normandy, France, for 1.3 million euros.
THE DETAILS Groundbreaking is scheduled for 2023 with the start-up and commissioning of the facility around 18 months later.
Infinite Loop France’s manufacturing facility will create circularity in plastic packaging for leading global consumer brands based in France, including L’Oréal and L’Occitane, to help them meet their content commitments Made from high grade recycled plastic.
“We are very happy to know that the Loop technology will soon be available in France to supply recycled PET plastic for our products,” said Jacques Playe, Packaging & Development Manager at L’Oréal. “We are constantly striving to meet our sustainability commitments. By 2030, 100% of the plastic used in our packaging will come from recycled or biobased sources. Our partnership with Loop Industries is aligned with our ambition.
THE WHY ? The site was selected after a thorough review of several dozen potential sites across Europe, Loop said, thanks to its pool of skilled local labor, favorable logistics and supportive regional government.
